The Hillbilly Moon Explosion are a European band playing their own versatile vision of American rock'n'roll ‘with a lot of style and sass’ (LA Weekly) – recently performing it to Americans on tour. They’ve long held the USA in their hearts; way back in 2006 they travelled to San Diego to record an album ‘All Grown Up’ with producer Mark Neill (Black Keys).

Since then they’ve become a viral phenomenon, with their ‘My Love For Evermore’ song from ‘Buy Beg Or Steal’ attaining worldwide cult obsession status - inspiring myriad tattoos, cover versions, 7” pressings and sixteen million Youtube views.

That murder-ballad love song was their first duet with Mark ‘Sparky’ Phillips, the wayward singer from Welsh psychobilly band Demented Are Go. His well-worn vocals contrasted with the sultry Emanuela Hutter and made the pairing one that had to be repeated on their next two albums.

Now they release a complete album of duets with Sparky, tellingly titled ‘The Sparky Sessions’.  The album's new recordings include songs written by all of the lead singers, as well as 60's covers such as 'Can't Keep My Eyes On You', 'Baby I Love You', and British rock’n’roller Crazy Cavan's 'Teddy Boy Flick Knife Rock'n'Roll'.  Previous Sparky duets from their past three albums also feature, including 'Jackson' (now reissued on 7" yellow slime vinyl) and the aforementioned 'My Love For Evermore'. A brand new video was published two weeks ago, of ‘Queen of Hearts’.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion are comprised of two Englishmen abroad – Oliver Baroni, double bass & vocals, and Duncan James, guitar; a French drummer Sylvain Petite, and their captivating Italian/Swiss chanteuse, Emanuela Hutter. Their home base is Zurich in Switzerland.

The band’s eclectic blend of musical styles – boldly mixing in elements of swing, ska, garage, psychedelia, country and Europop without compromising their rockabilly roots – make their rock’n’roll exciting and enduring. ‘The Sparky Sessions’ is their seventh album; they’ve played live in almost all European countries as well as Africa and the USA, and are continually expanding their audience worldwide.

Cuddly ToyZ feat. Paddy Phield's new 'Tracy - the Beginning' CD now available here.

Paddy Phield, the original drummer of glam-punk band Cuddly Toys (1979-80) returned to Japan and formed ‘Cuddly ToyZ’ almost four years ago, as a one-off tribute for the 20th anniversary of former Cuddly Toys frontman Sean Purcell who died in 1996.  It was deemed to be very successful, so after the tribute show Paddy was encouraged to carry on Cuddly ToyZ, adopting a more theatrical direction.

They toured Japan with the UK theatrical rock band Doctors of Madness, and supported ex New York Dolls guitarist Sylvain Sylvain's new ‘Dolls’ band in Tokyo in 2018.  Tragically, the ToyZ guitarist Atsushi passed away from cancer a couple of months afterwards.　

Now with a renewed line-up they’ve recorded ‘Tracy - The Beginning’, the ToyZ first album, containing original Cuddly Toys ‘Guillotine Theatre’ gems such as Timewarp, Brain Saviour and the Bowie/Bolan song Madman, all with a decidedly Japanese glam twist, and including a previously unreleased Cuddly Toys song, ‘Tracy’.

Paddy Phield
The Japanese drummer, original member of punk band Raped (1977-1978), Cuddly Toys (1979-1980) and Panache (1981).  Later worked with some session bands in England, France and Japan.  Suffered a stroke in 2002, but after a long rehabilitation formed Cuddly ToyZ in Japan in 2016. Their first album ‘Tracy - The Beginning’ is released in Japan in 2019. 
Momo (Vocal)
Loves Japanese Manga/Anime, acts as a cosplayer. Makes some stage costumes, wigs by herself. Also designed ‘Tracy -The Beginning’ CD artwork. Joined the band in 2017.
Rudy (Bass)
Started his music career at 17 years old. Studied music theories and performance skills under Mario Horikawa; participates in many shows and recordings of professional musicians. Joined Cuddly ToyZ from 2016.
kunihiko (Guitar)
Joined Cuddly ToyZ in 2019  Also member of Japanese punk band THE PINK’99 (guitar), electro unit EDGE (guitar, bass, programming). As EDGE, under the name of Kirei, he composed PSP game software ‘Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex’. The EDGE first album ‘Realize’ was released in Japan in 2012.
Lily (Guitar)
Japanese glam rocker who has a long career as bassist, guitarist, composer. Participated in many glam bands as support. Loves the glamourous style – and motorcycles. Joined Cuddly ToyZ in 2019.
raika (Keyboards)
Played with Japanese 80's punk band “MERRY GO ROUND”, psychedelic acoustic folk duo “Aoi Hoshi”. Had lots of gigs, tours, recordings, also works solo too. Joined Cuddly ToyZ in 2017.

In 1985 Johnny Thunders went into the studio in London, to record his third and final solo album. He gathered friends Mike Monroe, Patti Palladin, John Perry, Wilko Johnson, Henri-Paul Tortosa, Nasty Suicide, JC Carroll, Stiv Bators, Glen Matlock and others, and the resulting album was christened ‘Que Sera, Sera’.

It wasn’t all plain sailing – with Johnny it rarely was. Johnny had spent the previous two years in relative stability. He’d been gigging around the world, and between tours he was filming in France. Life was a series of nice apartments and hotels shared with his constant companions – his girlfriend Susanne and his manager Christopher.

Now circumstances meant he had neither. Without a new release, touring slowed, and his high-maintenance lifestyle led him to seek friend favours for somewhere to live. The major labels that Christopher hoped would provide financial support hadn’t materialised.

In a row with Susanne, she complained that Johnny had never written a song for her. Johnny obliged, and along with new songs from his live set, he recorded I Only Wrote This Song for You (the remixes of this and Alone in a Crowd are now available to stream or buy as digital singles; click on titles). Before the album was finished, as soon as he had a rough monitor mix of the song, he flew to Sweden to attempt a reconciliation.

Those remaining at the studio were left to put the pieces together. Patti Palladin oversaw the mixing with the engineer, and found there wasn’t really enough for an album. Patti added Tie Me Up from the b-side of her Crawfish project, and Blame It On Mom was found from an earlier session. The title-track was actually an afterthought; recorded as a single 16 months later.

The album was well-received, and it got Johnny touring again, but there was always a sense that it could have been better, and that the guitar was restrained – in ’85 many artists were seeking mainstream crossover. Two tracks had been left off – Jerry Nolan’s Countdown Love song was unused as he hadn’t yet recorded it; and Talk About You, a lengthy blues workout that didn’t seem to fit.

With those two tracks in mind as bonus tracks for a reissue, Pat Collier, former Vibrators’ guitarist, was asked to mix them. When the results came through, it became obvious that Pat should remix the whole album using today’s technology and viewpoint.

In the multi-track tapes a few outtakes were discovered, and last year the ‘Resurrected’ version was released as a Record Store Day double-vinyl with 5 bonus live tracks. After interruptions, the CD version was reappraised and expanded to a three-disc box set. The original album is included, reinstating Tie Me Up and the old, familiar mixes. Three live gigs were uncovered, and they became the live version of the album as a bonus CD.

Johnny Thunders’ biographer, Nina Antonia, has written new notes with interviews for the 36-page booklet. It also includes lyrics and unseen photos from the recording sessions, the cover session and from one of the featured live gigs.
